I know everybody have different point of view about yaoi, some view it as "disturbing" but for some others, it not too bad. I personally enjoy reading Yaoi mangas, but honestly speaking, i didnt like it at first but as i keep on reading i find it not too bad. Some Yaoi mangas are quite good comparing to shoujo or other types of manga. So anyway, what's your opinion about Yaoi in general? if you don't like it, would u still give it a try or it definitely a no-no??
Not a personal favorite, but it's okay. I doesn't disturb me or anything though. I know someone who is completely obsessed with yaoi.
I'm not in love with yaoi but I do enjoy the occasional read, ecchi I just don't get...
im not against it or hate it. its alright. the first yaoi thing i watched was gravitation. i heard poeple also liked Loveless too but i didn't read it
i started to like Yaoi after i read Love Mode, it's one of my favorite
I Haven't read alot of Yaoi..o.0 I don't think theres anything WRONG with it though..Not sure if I like it or not however... I'll get back to you on that =0D
i dunno, i think it depend on what Yaoi u read, some have good plot, and some have no meaning at all.
What would you suggest one read? (sorry)
I'm not much of a Yaoi fan, but when I do read them, I read them for the story. Koi wa Ina Mono Myouna Mono, Dear Myself and Yatteraneeze are the ones I love the most.
Those have very compelling stories which may be better than some of the shoujo mangas I've read. In any case, I just pretend that one of them is actually a girl. :-[ But heck most of the themes in these Yaoi's that I like have this as a catchphrase "You can't help who you fall in love with."
In this case, I accept their Yaoiness. :icon_thumleft:

Love Mode and Fake, that's my two top Yaoi . I also like Kenji no Bakura, steady study and White Black. but if u a beginner, i would suggest Steady Study or Kenji no Bakura, love mode has a lot of sexual scenes. ( but the plot is awesome)
Like everybody else ... not a hater or lover of yaoi. I'm not fond of yaoi before but after watching Gravitation and Loveless (which is actually a shounen-ai) ... it was okay. I just recently started reading yaoi manga. What I'm just bothered is that why they have to make the characters so gorgeous. *sobs* Yeah ... randomness. (",)
yeah i know. i love the art by Yamato Nase and Masara Minase. i wonder if they do shoujo as well
Like most people who have posted, I don't love or hate it...though I prefer yaoi couplings to be on the side, not the main focus of a story. I tend to avoid stories that are centered around yaoi/shounen ai couplings. Though I have to admit I'm curious what draws people to yaoi. Perhaps someone could come up with a possible theory?
i think yaoi's fine. nothing really wrong with it.
i usually read it because some stories are interesting.
...
I have nothing to say. I have no opinion whatsoever.
...
...
...
there are wicked awesome bishshounen in them though...
Personally, I do not mind at all some are pretty good but others can be pretty disturbing, it really depends on the type. My favorite would have to be "Only the Ring Finger Knows". I love that one!
well, yeah.. i've read that one last year it was kinda swett... but 'only the ring finger knows' doean't really count as a yaoi... it's more on the genre of 'shounen-ai' or boy's love...the main difference between yaoi and shounen-ai is the degree of sexuality of the graphics... in shounen-ai the maximum is just up to kissing... while in yaoi they go all through-out the stages and are very graphic about it...
But there are also great yaoi mangas out there with great plots and not-so-disturbing sexual scenes (more like they are impied rather than shown...
Some yaoi plot-lines are dark and full of angst and who knows what else...i really hated those...
But it does not mean that i'm a yaoi fan! I just came acroos some of them sometime ago when i was looking for a good manga to read.

Me too! I didn't like yaoi at all at first, but I kept trying it out, and it became not so bad anymore... I agree, some yaoi mangas ARE quite good compared to some shoujo mangas... Like for example, have you tried Sequence or Choushihri Genshou Nouryokusha Nanaki? So far thos are my favourite yaoi's... There are still some yaoi's that I just don't like, but basically I have nothing against them..
However, I just don't like yuri. How about you?
Have you noticed that (usually) girls like yaoi but not yuri, but guys like yuri and not yaoi? Interesting, is it not?
lol ... i don't like yaoi.... and i don't wanna dare to read one of those....
dunno why... little afraid nyahahaha >.<

I agree with you. these are very good yaoi. i like them. i found them to be more interesting them some. Love Mode is the best! I also like Gravitation! gravi to me is the best ever!
In fact, i am really fond of yaoi.... but some of them, i admit that i find them disturbing, in the same way that i will find some hentai very unpleasant.... only pornographic and filled with negative ideas and relationships.....
but as for the rest, i consider them as a kind of shoujo, and i must confess i really am a shoujo maniac....
why would i be fond of yaoi so much: all the major themes for romance are present, often with geat plot... they are about love that one can not face or accept, impossible love, love that transcend everything and that you have to fight for.... Often , the lover can not quite accept what they are and who they love, they can be disturbed, tormented by themselves, they have to hide... all these spices that make great shojo, that in fact make great love stories.... and i am not at all disturbed by homosexual pairings, as i have friends that are so and all that i can say is, as long as there is mutual feelings/love, how could it be abnormal?
i discovered yaoi/shonen ai along with anime, because ones of the first animes that friends lent me were yami no matsuei and gravitation. So i got preatty quickly hooked to it....
But i also love "loveless" (as a manga i think it is not shonen ai but yaoi, contrary to the anime that is shonen ai....).
If you are looking for shonen ai, you should go to the site for storm in heaven, they have some great things there... for yaoi, you could try hocchuuami, liquid passion.... try tokudane.cjb.net for a list of new sacnlations and links to groups....)
hentai... ew... >_<
yaoi... nvm... >_>
shounen ai... o_O
it gives me the creeps to see a guy plus another guy kissing...
well, it's not like i'm against homos (to tell the truth, i had a very, very horrible experience with them >_<) ...i just can't stand it...
but, most gay-guy relationship breaks up, only few remains till the end...
did you saw a gay-guy relationship that lived happily ever after? i mean, from marriage till they got old and died... ? o_O
shounen ai, is it the girl-girl relationship manga?
no shonen-ai means boyxboy but their relationship do not cross the carnal boundaries, that is they do not even kiss, they have a very deep relationship but they do not even kiss....
for girl*girl, i think the name is yuri (sorry if i am making a mistake here, please correct me...).
As a fact, the men i know that are homosexual are the same age as me, so i can not say that they have been able to have a very long relationship but, at least one, is looking for a long-time partner and already had one relationship for more than one year, but then they separated. From what i see, their relationship is as durable (or not) as other heterosexual friends.....the problem is that they often get feelings for people that are not homosexual so, their love-stories can be quite complexed and they do not have the same large choice of mates as heterosexuals.... sorry to hearabout your bad relationship but please, think that bad people are everywhere and as a girl, i really appreciate homosexual men, cause they behave correctly with me, contrary to lots of men that treat women as meat....
My boyfriend once was nearly kissed by another man, (he did not dee it come at all, the other man was homosexual and drunk) and thereafter was also very ill at ease with all homosexual men, but since lots of my friends are, he finally accepted them again....seeing they would not "attack" him....
lol... my bad...
well, i did have a bad experience... *decides to talk about it*
I was walking with a guy friend. Then a gay walked towards us and pushed me aggressively making her (him) between us. I didn't know what was her (his) point... I only know that she (he) had a huge crush on my friend >_>
But that pushing was inappropriate... I mean, he can just say excuse me instead... >_<
The worst part was when the people around us stared at me T_T
Well, I don't assume this kind of behavior on all homosexuals...
just like your point that they do treat women better than other men...
well, in my religion (roman catholic) it's not allowed... but the priests can't do anything about it XD
yes, i guess that you have stupid or aggressive or bad people everywhere....
I am sorry for you, this kind of situation is very unsettling, even a kind of psychological violence, to press on people out of nowhere, and inflict one's choice like that
I am more or less of an atheist, but as everybody, i guess i was biaised as a child even if in France great progress are made to accept homosexual: at the beginning, i was ok with male homosexual relationships but i was very ill at ease and confused with lesbian.... until i met and made friends with several of them without even knowing their sexual preferences at first, and one day, when i saw two of them walking hand in hand and kissing in a tenderly way, to me they just looked like any couple (found them so cute) and since that, i think i am ok with all female homosexual couples.
But if a girl was trying to flirt with me, i would find it just as irritable as any guy flirting with me, no excuses! :love5: i just do not like to be pressed!
In fact when you just think on it, some animals have homosexual relationship, and if you do not consider sex as only a tool for reproduction but as an intimate exchange with the one you have feelings for, why not between two people of the same sex? I can not see why you could not fall in love with someone your own sex, because, that is the person that counts, his/her temper/emotion/(the figure for some of us). As for the rest, it is just our society that have an effect on how we see the world but not in a rational way....
But you can not say that pressions coming from religions or our society are easy to deal with and easy to change...
i am something of a feminist also, and i know the day when are not considered as inferior to men are still far away, even if there are progress, but i like to be able to change people's point of view, when i talk with them and explain what i feel...
heehee... Well yea I do find Yaoi disturbing... but the silly thing about it is that I picked this manga that had awesome drawing and started reading it... Man it was awesome but then i got ideas... it turned out it was a yaoi manga... its not that bad but its still a lil disturbing for me... I just cant believe that I didnt know it was a yaoi manga :triplets:
I think that the one I read was something called Ghost World? I dont know it had Ghost in it... But I still prefer shonen and the girly one which I have forgotten what its called! dang... I know what it is but it slipped out of mind!!! :crybaby2:
@mielikki: Well, I think males have difficulty accepting gays and females with lesbians? I mean, you look at someone with the same sex as you that acts indifferently. After a minute, you realize he/she was already flirting with yah.. >_> (Happened to me... ack!)
It's hard to keep up w/ the kind of socienty in my place. Too many religious people everywhere watching your every move. I get irritated with the conservatism. These oldies meddle even with your fashion... >_< and, they are really strict with the gender... saying its prohibited and such... How... old-fashioned way of thinking... which is inflencing me in some way... i hope not much though...
I think it's just ok to have same-sex relationships... they have the freedom anyway to do what they wanna do and what life they wanted. I just don't get the point of the church and others.. but that would make me questioning my religiont, won't I? *sigh*
I'm somewhat a feminist too. ^^
I get frustated with stupid guys saying their better...but they get all silent when a girl beats them and they even deny it. Why would they think they're that good anyway? Just bec. they're males doesn't make a difference... Where is this "All people are equal."? As time goes on, my belief in this saying fades away.
Though I'm still disturbed when it comes to yaoi and yuri... can anyone suggest exellent mangas so that i can start good? ^^
I'll try it... and I hope it would be worth it.
*snickers while thinking of naughty yaoi images*
I'm quite fond of Yaoi :love5:.
I will eventually burn in hell...
i discover yaoi four years ago and since i've loved it <3
Personally, I'm not a fan of yaoi.
I've read one series accidentally without realising it was yaoi until I was halfway through, because the couple really looked like one was a male and the other female.. So I thought it was a shoujo, till halfway.. Then I went oops! And went back, checked that it was yaoi.. But I continued reading it for the storyline, though I am now more careful to make sure I don't read yaoi by mistake again -_-"
Haha! Though i don't read yaoi much, I do like cross-dressing mangas.. where a girl is like a boy and vise versa. :D
@jtingx: At least, you had experience. Lol. xD
it definitely a no-no ,,
honestly ,, i dont like it ,,
i don't read yaoi ,,
dont like it
I accidently started reading yaoi when I downloaded something from a site that featured shoujo romance. I realized the bl title (I think it was Koi wa Ina Mono Myouna Mono by Zaou Taishi) was better written and much for engaging than the shoujo I was reading. Now I mostly read titles that are adventure, yaoi or josei.
