Title: Kumusta sa lahat! (Tagalog Thread)
Post by: goldlilys on November 03, 2006, 06:03:30 PM
Magsalita kayo ng Tagalog kung gusto ninyo o sabihin na lang sa Ingles, like this because sometimes it is easier that way. Like I've said on my site, I'm loosing some of my Tagalog vocabulary. So mag-usapan na kayo!! What are you waiting for?

Hmm, I could have sworn there are other Pilipinos dito?

Bakit ......  :color:(http://skins.hotbar.com/skins/mailskins/em/google_emoticons/emoti_368.gif)

Oh wow! Kamusta Lahat! Medio mahirap ang mag-usapin sa tagalog. Pero kahintindian fluently. I know im really bad at this but i try hard. My older sister was taught Tagalog fluently becuase my parents would only speak it to her. then I came along and I was Taglish because my parents would speak to me in Tagalog and my sister would speak to me in English. SO I can understand fluently but speaking it is a little difficult! but I love the philippines with all my heart. I think we're going back this christmas so I want to become fluent in one year. so i have been practicing. But what really gets to me is the past, present, and future tenses..... anybody want to try to teach me? :triplets:

Oooh I can help. Well first thing is your sentence above. Hmm, lets see:

Kumusta sa Lahat (not kamusta and you need a particle b4 lahat). Medyo (not medio cuz it is spelled the way it sounds, not like English silent letters).

First Tenses lesson (I think):
kina-usap (past) -> usapin (present) -> mag-usapan (future)

kahintindian -> naintindihan

Overall, hey good job for trying  :icon_thumleft:  :icon_thumright: . And don't worry, I know Philippines-born Pilipinos who can't say a word of Tagalog after they came to America.

Well lol, I understand when you speak English but after I don't. But what about your french?

It's easier speaking french than english for me ^^ but I wanna improve my english so I'll try to don't speak french in the forum.

Ayashi,

You can create a new topic for French speakers. This one is the Tagalog Thread ... even though people hardly say anything. Yah just a recommendation.

Haha!! Pilipino rin ako! And proud to be one! hehe ^_^

Well, they were supposed to speak in english, but for some reason, what comes out from their lips is taglish haha... They just can't speak english straight ^.^

Hehe... I confess that I also speak taglish... coz it's easier, for me...
We rarely use very deep tagalog now... even tagalog teachers in our school speak taglish in some times...

(Goldlilys -> "Kamusta"  is already accepted and it is used often, and we rarely use "kumusta" nowadays...)

(Pauline: really you guys use kamusta now? Probably because foreigners use it so much that it became permanent. I actually prefer to use tagalish, but mostly leaning towards english because it is hard speaking in Tagalog all the time. Too many syllables. Plus, I havent been back for almost 15 years now. Aah need to visit there one of these days.)

Madaming panood sa Pilipinas na maganda...There are many comedy movies...
It was just like last year that filipinos were so hooked to taiwanese shows ^_^

Sikat ang mga teleserye/telebabad (shows that filipinos watch everynight during weekdays)... They come out of different categories like drama, fantasy, romance, etc. Akala ko ba mayroong TFC (The Filipino Channel) sa ibang bansa? And the tv is saying that it's very popular in other countries (-_-)...

Oh, ABS-CBN will act out an anime, ROUNIN into a teleserye... Am really excited it'll come out at April 14, I guess... I just hope they can provide the visual effects successfully...

Kailangan mag pay ng extra dollars, but since I'm still a student who is very poor and still needs to pay back loans, can't afford to get cable. Woops, naging English. Aaah, I've heard of Rounin, but what's it about. I only love Romance, and comedy movies in tagalog. Action and fantasy tends to be so fake. I kind of got spoiled by well done special effects.  :icon_flower:

It's a comedy and the ads are really funny  :icon_thumright:... The title is "Ang Cute ng Ina mo" it will come out at April 7 here in the Phil.... The main actress is Ai Ai de las Alas... She's very popular in the Phil. when it comes to comedy...

Yeah... I'm not very proud about the visual effects of the Philippines... When I saw the advertisements of Rounin, effects weren't that good... it's a little... "fake"
And the tv said it's the most expensive teleserye already....  :angry7:
haay.... Although the settings were pretty good, the effects are not...

Hindi ako masyadong nakakabalita sa mga Romance movies pero napanood ko ang romance filipino movie na "You Got Me" by Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milbby (Heartthrobs in the Phil.), at ok lang.... :icon_thumleft:

Oh, and the "Rounin" was about 7 ronins (masterless samurais), and I don't know why there's a "u" in the title.... Basta there's a lot of fighting and dying thingy... and some forbidden loves...

I was also thinking to ask you kung anong magandang palabas dyan s Pilipinas but Gold beat me to it. ^_^ Yung pilipinong teleserye, kasi yng mga kwento ng kaibigan and pinsan puros Taiwanese or Korean ang teleserye ngyn dyan. I was also disappointed on the visual effects ... mashadong fake. When I saw Super Inggo I was like "o_O wtf?!?!?" Hehehe.

As Gold said ... mahal ang TFC dito s America, well para sa kin mejo mahal. ^_^ I think it's about $50 a month. *evil laugh*

Yeah, Ai-Ai is the best when it comes to comedy. ^_^ Oh, I heard Sam Milby is pretty good in acting.

Aside from movies and tv shows, ano naman ang bago when it comes to music?

Hehehe. (",)

Post by: pauline5765 on March 28, 2007, 07:32:57 PM
I agree... Super Inggo has poor special effects... Even GMA can't do good special effect... T_T

These boy bands compose and sing songs that are acoustic, rock, r&b, etc.
Well, if you like these kind of songs, these can be your fave  :icon_thumleft:
I'd recommend the songs of "Bamboo", well, he's popular in the Phil. too... he usually sings rock music
"Rocksteddy" is good too they're rock too...
"Spongecola" and others..like "Callalily"... can't remember much...
Well, Yeng Constantino is popular too... She has many songs that hit the charts...

Some of their popular songs:
a) "Bitiw" - Spongecola
b) "Salamat" - Yeng Constantino
c) "Noypi" - Bamboo
d) "Hawak Kamay" - Yeng Constantino
e) "Stars" - Callalily
f) "Lagi mo nalang ako dinededma" - Rocksteddy
g) "Alleluia" - Bamboo
h) "Sugod" - Sandwich

...and many more!

Bamboo?!?!? Isn't he the lead singer of Rivermaya before or is it a different one? I like Spongecola, they're quite good. Sabi ng pinsan ko magaling cla so I tried to download their songs. ^_^ Hawak Kamay is a good song too. First time ko narinig un yng pinanood ko yng Pinoy Dream Academy, ever since then I got addicted listening to that song. Si Yeng yng nanalo s PDA right?!?

Oohhh ... THANKS for recommendations/suggestions. I'm gonna start downloading their songs. (",)

Yup. Bamboo is the former lead singer of Rivermaya but he got separated with them and made his own band. I guess there's a fight or something.
Nanalo si Yeng Constantino sa PDA. She's really talented. She compose her own songs and they became popular immediately...

Your WELCOME! Hope you'll like them...

i'd rather use english and im kinda used to it ^_^
and i tend to use taglish when im trying to use tagalog....  :crybaby2:

kaya nga, parang mas mahirap sabihin kung ano mang ang iyong gistong sabihin sa tagalog... mas madali tuloy kung Ingles... kung sa'min naman, kung gusto naming mag tagalog, minsan ay nagwawagalog nalang kami (waray-tagalog)... so it seems i need more practive regarding or nation's language, ne?
Title: Re: Kumusta sa lahat! (Tagalog Thread)

Dati marunong akong magsalita ng Bisaya dahil ako ay nakatira sa Manjuyod ng isang year (ahh what is year in tagalog again?).

Do you guys use or know other dialects as well?
Title: Re: Kumusta sa lahat! (Tagalog Thread)

lol! ang tagalog ng "year" is "taon" ^_^

Opo... ^_^
I use our dialect well, which is Ilocano... Iyon ang itinuro sakin noong bata ako eh. My relatives usually speak Ibanag but I'm not capable to understand it...

hmmm... well my classmates can express themselves in tagalog very well.. even at the net... but they can't speak english much...

sometimes they sound like... their beginners in english.... o_O to think that we studied english since elementary days...

...as for me .. i'm just more comfortable in talking in english at the net but when speaking it... not so good... for me... like for example i stop 2 to 3 times when i talk about a topic....

Oh my mom's side of the family are all Ilocanos while my dad's side are all Bisayans. But I was born in Manila. A long (well not that long since Philippines is so small) way from the other two origins. We just recently bought a house and hopefully, that will make our lives more stable.

Wow...I'm kinda surprised to see this many Filipinos...Makes me wish that I, as a half-Filipino, could speak Tagalog.  I never really learned the language since I was born in Pennsylvania with one Filipino parent & the other white.  As it stands, I only know a few words, mainly from my Filipino relatives & when I visited the Philippines a few years ago.  I wouldn't be able to understand, though, if someone was talking to me in Tagalog.  :-/

Palaam!

well, stef, it doesn't really matter if you can't speak much Tagalog words....what matters most is that you are Filipino at heart (even if its only a fraction)....And 'Good bye' in Tagalog is "Paalam" and not "Palaam".....

Its so nice to meet you! Hope you drop in more often!

I've only been to a few islands.  We flew into Manila, of course, & spent a few days there & then spent a couple days at Tagaytay & the hot springs (saw Taal volcano, etc.).  Then we flew out to Iloilo in my dad's home island of Panay to visit my aunt & took another harrowing car ride to my dad's hometown of Mambusao.  While there, we took another day trip to the island of Boracay.  I only spent 2 weeks there but it was quite an experience!

And thanks for the correction, nianna_angel.  I should probably just stick to English.  ;)

Wow! It's so nice to see some tagalog post, although I can only understand and not speak it so much. It's kind of disappointing considering I used to be able to, growing up in the Philippines for the first 10 years of my life and coming here to the US, no one spoke tagalog so I kind of lost it (about 12 years now that I haven't spoken tagalog). I'm a halfsie and even though my mom is Filipina, she doesn't speak it that much either.

But it was nice to see som and Kumusta everyone :)

I came to the US when I was 9 years old so I've been living here for 14 years now. But because my family speaks Tagalish, I can still understand and speak Tagalog. Most of my friends in college are other Asians and whites and we only speak english to each other so I'm like forgetting the harder Tagalog words.

Anyways, I don't get why some Filipino families who come to the US suddenly stops speaking Tagalog just because they came here. Most of my cousins were born in the US and they hardly know a word in Tagalog because their parents hardly speak Tagalog to them. Like what's so bad about being Bilingual?

Kumusta na Masami Akane, surprise na surprise din ako na madaming pilipinos nagvisit sa site and wanting to help out. Hopefully you can help out too. And welcome to the forums. Do keep coming back.  :cya:

Well...In my case my siblings & I never learned Tagalog because my dad was the only one in the family who understood it, so it really didn't make a whole lot of sense for him to use it at home...But he still likes to confuse/tease us with it.  lol  I also grew up in a small town with very few Asians, and the ones who were somewhat close to my age either didn't learn it, or chose not to use it.

But, I can see what you're saying, goldlilys.  My cousins came over from the Philippines & their daughter hardly knows any Tagalog.  My guess is that they want to be more "American" once they get over here.  When you retain your native language you may be viewed more as an outsider to the general public.  But that's just my guess...
