Okay, I really think there should be passwords on the manga that you can only get from the forums. It just bothers me that the site gets so many frickin' visitors and there's no one on the forums. I know the whole point of this site was for free manga and all, but it'd be nice to talk to some other people besides the ones that are bored with nothing to do. Namely me.
yeah, that's a nice idea!!! I had this friend of mine who has her own scan group and she first set up her site in Myspace.com. She placed passwords on all the files and the only way for you to get them was to post comments... and for you to post comments, you have to add her to your friend's list and for her to add you to hers.... it was quite ingenious actually.... ^^
Haha, that's also one thing that many people have been doing nowadays and having all the mangas in forums. I don't really know about that. Maybe for the really rare mangas ... I mean it does bother me that not many people post in the forums but having easily accessible mangas is one of the main goals for this site. Changing that may affect the overall flow of site. Need more opinions on this.
Trust me, easily accessible is an understatement right now. You currently have hundreds upon hundreds of manga downloads available, and you update regularly. You don't even need to request manga, because of that. All we really do is makes sure there aren't any dead links.
Maybe we should put all licensed ones in the forums.
Not put them in forums, but just password protect them. It will be easier to find them that way.
Hmmm... that's a good idea ^^..... but even so, one of our goals is to also increase the people who interact in the forums....
..... assigning a password to rare mangas is a good idea.
But the problem is we don't have rare mangas...
Other manga sites have the same mangas as we do or perhaps more....
We can only have rare mangas if we do our own scanlations >_>
...hmm, maybe you can put up a system instead,
for example... each user have credits like a limit of 10 volumes at first...
if your credits are all used up, you need to post in the forum for more credits which means more mangas to download....
and if a user posted unrelated things (spamming) and violated forum rules
then their credits will be deducted... wish i'm clear enough ^^
lol, dunno but when i encounter sites that you need a password and you need to do this and that, i get irritated and just leave >_<
You mean like VNManga? Like their currency thing? Well all their downloads are direct from their own servers... Doing the credit thing would mean we would need our own server, because we can't keep track using uploading sites.
..... just googled vnmanga
hmm, putting up our own server would cost much, doesn't it? bad idea >_>
well, then we'll end up putting passwords after all....
but it won't be that user-friendly anymore...
let me think again ... @_@
uhm... just a wild idea, I notice that this forum has those level things, you know, the pebble...copper member, etc.
....and the levels are based on the number of posts...
what if the users in the pebble level can only dl the unlicensed mangas
and other higher level forum users can dl more, including the licensed ones....
so you basically need to have a forum account in order to download, if not then you won't
get any.... so having more members posting in the forums for the sake of increasing their
number of posts would hype up the forum and they may eventually enjoy staying here
:blob9: :blob9: :blob9: :blob9: :blob9: :blob9:
but i don't have any idea on how to do that xD
LOL it's just a wild idea coz im against the passwords thing.... :crybaby2:
Yes well, I'm also hesitant about the password thing because a lot of other forum based sites are already doing that. They move everything into their forums just to get to download the mangas. I mean not just login but have to post like 10-30 posts. Sometimes those posts are just thank yous and other spam type of comments.
There has to be another way to attract visitors to post comments in the forum. Nothing to do with moving mangas to the forum I hope.
I made my site so that it is easy to access the mangas. And I cannot afford to get a paid hosting service because that would just be too expensive. Everything we put up are free so why ask the visitors to pay just to keep the site up.
Hmm how do the VNManga keep track of their downloads? Arent I already doing that by the number of clicks that a user has clicked on the manga?
I dunno, their currency system depends on how much you post. The most you can get in one post is twenty coppers, it takes ten coppers to download one volume and one copper to download a single chapter. However you can only download ten tems a day. It countsdown when the download begins.
I like the post idea. That's what Esthetique does. Like NC-17 ones are also restricted to those who are active. I believe what they do is have twenty-five posts then you can apply. Then a mod checks out their posts and there are certain areas where the posts don't count.
I don't like the password idea.
I like the post idea too.
I think we need to remove the chatterbox.. i feel like more ppl comment on there becuase they want quick responses rather than the whole registering process. It might help to increase productivity in forums =/
The chat box can be moved to the main site. The chat box is pointless in the middle a forum.
yeah, you're right... people post there instead of in the forums...I'm also all for the post idea...

But i also agree with pauline on this one...
Well, seems like one has to sacrifice one to have the other....
Many people seems to like the post idea. Now my question is how can this be done? I'll just let you all know that the forum is not connected whatsoever with the manga downloads section. They are both in different servers and are using a different logic function for them to work.
The posting works well with other sites that are focused mostly on the forum like SV Loyalty. Many of the members there do not have access to the mangas until they actually register and log in. That is why that site has a lot of posts everyday. But there is something more than that and that is what we all need to figure out.
My site is divided into 4 different groups. The main site, the manga downloads, the Fans Media Blogs (mostly for Asian Music) and the forum.
The main site has basic information of my favorites and lists. The manga downloads is self explanatory. The Fans Media Blogs, need someone to help me out and provide content for the artists or dramas. The Fans Media Blogs is also similar to the Forum, a lot of members, but no one really participating in the discussions.
The forum needs a new concept. Something that other sites have not done before. It should not limit manga downloads. I know of other forums that have no manga downloads, but still have a lot of members posting everyday. One reason I know of is content. People want to see something different compared to other sites. Like why would you join a forum if they are offering similar things that bigger sites are already offering?
Basically, need more clarification for the post idea? Explain it clearly so I can figure out whether it can be done or not. I would need to program the logic for it and I need more info from all of you guys.
I believe the idea is that the more posts there are, the more access to the manga.
Anyways, before I blow my brain on the post idea, I think the main site should be dedicated on updates and keep track of what actual manga there are. Just having a giant list somewhere. Big announcements, graphics, links, updates, you're favorite lists and all that other jazz. Just spruce it up some more and make it more appealing.
I personally don't use the Fan Media Blogs, it confuses the crap out of me. Maybe if we just limit the discussions to the forums. We can clean up the forums some and move the music discussions here too. The music downloads can stay on the main site.
Truth betold I know of no forum that doesn't have a reward system. VK Scans offers their scans as soon as its completed to those on the forums, Manga rebels just has you registered so you can get the mangas, in order to get renders on another forum you also need a certain amount of posts to access a section.
So, I'm thinking we should take advantage of the whole "pebble" thing and other titles to allow members access into different areas of the forum. Like we can have recently updated/new releases be put in another area and we can include chapters as well, but you need to have a certain rank to attain it right away.
Licensed, NC-17 rated, can be put aside like that too. We'll just be running around like headless chickens for while setting it up. We can "re-set" the forums and give everyone a fresh start.
Even though I'm not that active in the forum I do love the idea of this site, free manga. I personally putting a minimum post toll on everyone before they can download isn't a good idea. I've tried it with other forums to get the manga, giving decent posts (I needed 25, so it took me a while) and I then had to 'apply' to be able to begin downloading the manga but the mods never did give me access. So I find these posting system tedious and sometimes pointless and it also puts a 'cost' on the manga. This site is so great cause its so easy and quick to use.
I know that I seem to be in the minority here but I have an idea to increase the traffic to the forums. Although I've been using this site for a while, I wasn't really aware there was a forum and I thought the main way for chatting etc was in the chatterbox. So I think increasing the publicity of the forum and removing the chatterbox would be good. How to make people aware of the forum? - put link under the reviewed manga with text like "Liked it? Hated it? Discuss in the forum" or "Learn more in the forums!" or "Want more manga? Request in the Forum"
Links like these on every page, discretely but so people read them I think would increase the traffic to the forum, or at least give it more exposure.
Well thats my 2 cents
wow... never thought someone will consider my wild ideas LOL ^^ (I was just desperate hehe)

I don't like the password idea.
LOL but you started it, right?
When I visited the site a while ago, I couldn't connect so I thought goldilys was moving the mangas already... (I felt like.... NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :crybaby2:) hahahaha i really hate passwords >_<
I agree with LT Sapphire I kinda find the Fans Media Blog a little confusing... there's a discussion here in the forum and same there.... why not just combining it as one? Oh ..... and about the articles, i saw that months have passed already and there are still very few of it.... maybe you can just write a summary of each manga instead? like when you click a manga a summary of the manga, images, its translators, etc. displays... and also, compile the volumes of a manga as one, (e.g. manga title, volume 1, volume 2, 3, 4....)
artemis have good ideas... but...

(1) it's still called "free mangas", you have access on it, just not instant access though...

(3) if a mod doesn't give you access when you deserve one, then you can always report it since there is a higher person, goldlilys ^^

(4) Let's look at the brighter side, when you participate in the forum it means you're giving your support for the site and the uploaders will be somewhat inspired to upload more mangas for everyone ^^

goldlilys have been telling people not to request at the chatbox...but they still keep on requesting in it.... >_>
...and how can you be not aware of the forum? *points at the large size font of the word "forum"*
...
I had this whole thing all typed out and the page refreshed on me. Stab me.
Alright, I agree, disagree and wish to tweak some ideas. So, I'll throw out mine. (Yes, I did start the password one and I can loathe it if I want to along with my idea to go to college...)
1. After registration all completed volumes of unlicensed manga with decent age ratings are available for one to use and abuse.
2. After a pretty little number of posts like 20-25ish licensed manga shall be available. It does take a while to get this many posts, however at regitstration one has all the unlicensed manga to begin reading and that'll keep a person busy for a while
3. NC-17 manga should be available, because they were already available to begin with at around 40-45 posts.
4. If you wanna start throwing in chapter releases this should be the last one only because Goldlilys wouldn't do it orgiinally.
... I smell like bleach. Bleh.
I agree with Artemis! I think the manga link is much more enticing than the forum link on the keft hand corner that no one seems to look at.
I also really think there are superfluous parts in the forum. I personally think the "General Anime dicussion board" can be combined the "Anime by Titile" board, same thing in the manga. I think you could throw all the medias (anime, manga, music, and drama) discussions into one big meadia discussion portion and seperate the uploads, downloads and requests into another board. General discussion of reality and how much one's government sucks can have its one little forum. Hell, you can throw the "Art Creations" Forum in the Gneral and throw the Banners under "Art Creations" because its a single topic anyways. Y'know just combining things because if we do move everything to the forums we can't have the place cluttered.
I know LTSapphire has a good idea that she's getting at, but most of those ideas totally makes my site similar to other manga hosters who are already doing that forum posting for mangas.
I can help fix, move, delete some parts of the forum, but I cannot move the manga downloads in the forum because when I made this site, my thoughts are as that of a leecher:
1. Don't like logging in
2. Don't like posting in forums to get the manga
3. Where is the uniqueness of my site if everything is moved in the forums?
Here's the sites that already do that:
http://www.esthetique-realm.net/
http://www.vk.onnacafe.com/
http://z8.invisionfree.com/SVLoyalty/index.php?
http://www.mangatraders.com/
http://s15.invisionfree.com/Shoujo_Manga_Maniac/
http://www.sugar888.com/index.cfm?sector=content&page=title&titleID=1039
There's more, but you get the point. How can we attract the users to keep coming to the site, if there are bigger manga sites out there that already do the same thing.
The site is not only a place for manga downloads, but all Asian Media. Is there a way for moderators to attract more visitors to the site and discuss or add topics without relying on putting the manga downloads in the forum. Forget about the manga downloads and help me come up with something that's an incentive to the visitors to keep coming to the site. I do understand that the main reason they come is the manga downloads, but after they get the manga they want, visitors tend to browse through the site and find more interesting services from it.
Forums is a place to share opinions, chat about anything, but shouldn't be a place where you get the mangas. That to me is annoying. We've had this lack of discussion on the forums for a while now, but I thought the moderators would be able to help with that. Do not change the concept of the site (easily accessible maybe an understatement, but it is still very important to many people who have no time to chat , but get the mangas quickly, read it and get on with their life)
I've gotten so many emails that says they come to the site for that reason. They chat if they feel like saying something more profound other than just saying thank you for ...... this manga. I know everyone feels grateful for free mangas, who wouldn't? But I've been asking many of you to add topics or new sections. Not just the forums, but the main site as well.
Still asking for moderators and uploaders to provide information about themselves in the Goldilys Announcement, but only about 4 people replied. I need your information to update the contact us section. Please reply to that section soon!!!

Well thats my 2 cents
I'll work on the manga downloads section so it will have a link to the review page as well as a rate this manga as new columns. That will be awhile, but I'll get it done. Thanks for this suggestion.
But my question for you is why did you not know about the forum if there are links to it from all pages of the site. Is it not visible enough? Do the fonts not entice you to go to the forum. What is the reason?
It's too cluttered. There's far too much going on the front page.
The only ones discussing are moderators...
ok... so no mangas will be moved to the forums....>_>
LOL all that convincing went to nothing.... and to know that others are emailing you about it... >_<
so i guess you can just apply the suggestions of artemis... put more ads about the forum in all of the pages of your site....
.... i think the fans media blog would be better without the discussions in it...why don't you just move it into the forums? so that there will be only one place where they could discuss about things.... music request can also go to the forum.... coz when discussions are divided into two, it would really appear like we're too few... and if im a new member i would really get bored if very few are discussing....
the fans media blog will only serve like a magazine with articles of each manga, song or any asian media you have...eer... but the downloads will be there as well...
....maybe, in the manga download page you can merge all the volumes of one manga?
.... uhm perhaps like when you click a manga title and the volume links will appear under it
also put text link like, "Read what the manga's about!" .... and it will be directed to its article at fmb....
.....weird... i know i have more suggestions ... but i forgot it all ... LOL
maybe i'll remember afterwards ^^
oh! oh! let's make a spam section ^^
1. Yes, no mangas will ever be moved to the forums. Please understand the uniqueness of this site is how people get their mangas.
2. I will put more ads so that people will recognize the forum.
3. I will not remove the Fans Media Blogs, but will be removing the Manga Reviews Section since no one is participating in that. Instead will be moving all manga reviews in the forum in the Mangas By Title so it is the moderators and uploaders job to fill that section up.
4. I also won't be removing the Music Downloads because it allows me to track how many people are downloading that music. If I move the mangas and music downloads on the forum, there is no way to track them.
5. For the manga downloads, I will have to program something so that each type of manga volume will automatically get added to the right manga page. This will take awhile so please be patient. Or if this won't work out, I will just add 2 more columns for rate this using stars and another for review which will link to the Forum page for that manga. Before this can work, please start reviewing your favorite mangas with the same style as the Fans Media Blogs Manga Review Page. Have the title, author, genre, completed or not, volumes #, summary and comments.
I'll help too, but not as much right now because I recently got a full time job as a Web Developer so I am in need of everyones help much more than before.
The same reviews I used to do for you? You want pictures this time though? Where do you want them posted right in forum in the manga by titles section? Can we hijack previous topics and just edit the first posts with the summaries and reviews and stuff? Shall we sign all our reviews?
::grins::
Good Luck with the new job.
Yes the same reviews as before and post them in the Mangas By title. You can hijack previous topics and fix them up. Yes do sign your reviews.
Thanks, I'll work hard on my job, so please work hard on adding more reviews for the forum too. :angel10:
Do you still have the reviews I wrote before? I totally forgotten which ones I've written.
I'll HELP!!! :icon_cheers:
LOL... of course... its my job... :love5:
...but few moderators/uploaders have been active these days.... i seldom see others.... >_<

Oh all the reviews you did before are on the main site in the manga collection page.
Well, shall I retype them new ones for those particular mangas or is copying and pating fine?
It's up to you. You can add additional comments too or change it entirely.
QuoteBut my question for you is why did you not know about the forum if there are links to it from all pages of the site. Is it not visible enough? Do the fonts not entice you to go to the forum. What is the reason?
When I look at the front page and want to see where to go, I look at the Tabs under the banner. There isn't a forum tab there so my mind jumps to the conclusion that there isn't a forum, because that nav bar seems to be the main way for me to get anywhere on the site.. It's only when I see the box on the side which doesn't immeadiately jump out at me, I see at the bottom there is a link to the Forum. I think, if a forum tab was created or the forum link was given its own box/section on the side in its own colour etc, it would be more obvious that there is a forum.
LOL ... i kinda agree with artemis ....
but i guess it will be just fine without a forum tab...
there's a large font ad to visit the forum beside the introduction already...
LOL... you removed the chatbox?
The forum tab totally works for me.

I had to remove the chatbox in the front page because people keep requesting or asking for a reupload there. Anyways, the forum is more visible now right since its a tab?
yeah...far more visible ....
LOL, yes quite visible... but i've got to admit that i was at first wondering where the forum link went.... it was only as i was searching the page that i found the tab... but it's far better now ^^
LOL... that was exactly what happened to me...
I was also wondering where the chatbox went... I thought that I have a problem with my pc XD
