Nani?

Hehe I know, my blood has always been my back up plan if I ever come short on money.

Yupp, it rocks to be the Universal Donor. My only problem with it is, as you can see from above, I don't know too many people with my blood type, so if I ever needed blood x.x. Although I have a lot of siblings so, I get to sleep at night >.<
Um. I actually have a heartfelt speech to put in here.

I just have to go find it somewhere in my computer and copypaste.

Wouldn't it work the same as if you were recieving blood? Is it not a universal acceptor?

no, its not...
O can donate to any blood types but can accept O only...
while AB can accept any blood type but can donate AB only....

LOL its exactly the opposite.... :blob9:

If you think I was useful, please click on that small text link "applaud" below my name "pauline5765"... but if you think I was crappy and all... then you can *sniff* smite *sniff* me...

So, a random informations for you (the fugures are correct for France, it should differ for other countries).
O is the most common blood type (up to 60-70%  of the total population), then A, B and AB. A and B are dominant on O. (O correspond to the absence of antigenes.... so it is logic). Also + or - rhesus also correspond to the presence (+) or absence (-) of an antigen system, so + is dominant on -. The problem during a transfusion is that if a different antigen than your own is detected by your immune system, a immune reaction will takes place (as when you are transplanted with an organ that do not match your antigenes types, except that they are a lot more antigene type for organs, so more difficult to find a compatible donor). And you could die of this reaction. That is why O- (no antigene) are universal donor, but at the same time, they can not receive other type of blood, for it would introcude antigenes that will be recognized as alien... AB+ people have all three type of antiben so they can could receive the blood of any type (in theory)... but cannot give safely blood except to other AB+ people....
In reality there are other factors to take into account when transfusing someone (presence of virus or other things like that), and that is why, (in France at least), blood donor have to match a whole lot of conditions, and then the blood sample must be checked....
Also when giving birth to a baby, a wowan and the baby blood can come into contact by the umbilical cord (accident, or if it is cut too late), and this mix can be dangerous because of the immune reaction... in fcat it is quite a bit more complicated than that but i will leave it at that except if you want the details...
(I am a biology student, you know... but perhaps you are not as fond of these kind of thing as i am)

In France, you can not sell your blood, you have to give it freely and we are always in a shortage....
The problem is, due to shortage, the saple taken from donor have already increased, and as it is now, as I am, i could not give my blood without needing some days, i would say a week, to recover (i am a low-blood pressure person, for other people, it is all right, they can recover in a day...).
I hope that these informations were interesting to you....

I would also like to know when and from what legend emerged this story of character and compatibility  based on blood type....i find this mysterious... since the blood type were discvered and explained in a recent past, i am surprised that this kind of legend could arise

It's no more legend than it is just simply a horoscope. A common horoscope out in the far east. It's just as the zodiac, people there are superstitious and the color red (blood) is a very important color. It's a lucky color and means life. So, I suppose somewhere along the lines some bored magazine writer came up with it. So, the usual pick-up lines over there tend to fall along the lines of "What's your blood type?" Mangaka artists often take these blood type characteristics and put them in their characters that's why you see each character's blood type in their bios.

I'm taiwanese, and the whole chinese zodiac and the date of birth is taken seriously. Once a year after the new year I have to have my fortune told for the year. This year, attending funerals is major bad luck. for my dad, well if I was born a boy then he'd have a serious illness that'll actually kill him. So, for him all he has is just a lot of bad luck. Names also mean a lot in a person apparently and so does the actual date of birth. I'm not to sure on the details, but that's alright. It's really fun knowing that on the old Chinese calenders I'm actually 19 when I'm still 17!

Though, I will tell you that whole blood-transfusion is confusing. I'm not a bio student, but that sounds ultra complicated. I can't donate because I'm anemic and I also have low-blood pressure, plus my weight borderline on the mininum... but this does sound really interesting.

wow... thats interesting... I didnt know that... heehee... I have always thought why are they so crazy about blood types? thank you for the explanation...
I'm an O but I dont know if I am a + or a - heehee.. either way they predicted my personality right...
but hey... AB blood types are so rare  :icon_thumright: well i forgot why... i learnt it in biology
